Chairs Report

Lostock Partnership

Chairs report September 2016

I think we should consider 2015/16 a successful year for our community with our links to local businesses, organisations and people having positive impacts.

Following the retirement of Mrs Farrent at Lostock College I would like to welcome Mr Fazackerley the new head teacher. I would like to welcome him to the area and thank him for continuing the progress that has been made towards ensuring Lostock Youth Centre remains open. Following several meetings with him and Mrs Ann Day, chair of governors, we are making good progress towards maintaining the centre. This work is supported by our partnership with Gorse Hill Studios. This union enables us to offer quality youth work in Lostock and gives us a very positive future ahead.  A warm welcome also to Revd Luke Maguire, Priest in Charge of All Saints Church who has already got involved in our work.

Another success to shout about is the award achieved by Lostock College Library. Mrs Childs and Lostock College received the Redrow Homes Active Community Award at the 2016 MEN School Awards.  This is a well-deserved award and gives recognition to the work done for the school and the wider community. Whilst we celebrate this achievement it should also be noted that we must continue to use the library so make sure you visit and find out what’s on. From babies Rhyme time to adult craft groups and a job club there is something for everyone.

Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea at QUEST

In April this year the Quest Beaver Scout group invited us to an afternoon tea. What a tea it was, they had worked all day preparing sandwiches, cakes and tea as well as learning so many songs and dances. It was a lovely afternoon get together and we thank them for all their hard work.

The Lostock Community Garden is thriving and is well worth a visit. A huge thank you must to go to George and Margaret Duckett who oversee the allotment beds and who put hours of work in to keep everything going there.

Decorate your own Crown
Decorate your own Crown

As we always try to do we put on events in Lostock for the community to enjoy and get together. Recently we held a neighbourhood day sponsored by Greater Manchester Police. The theme was to promote community cohesion and safety and get to know your neighbours. The day was good fun with lots going on.These children were the winners of the decorate your crown to celebrate the Queens 90th birthday.

Trafford Housing Trust Urmston Community panel have kindly sponsored two activities in the area for this summer so there can be no cries of boredom. Grip Adventure will be running a four week programme of activities from 1st August -25th August for children aged 7—17 years. It is free to join but with only twenty places per day people should get signed up early. They can do this by calling 07806790988 or through the Lostock Partnership web site.

Our work with young people continues and we have a new youth panel who have taken on the challenge of helping organise a youth event which will be held on Sunday 10th September in Lostock Park. The day is aimed to encourage them to take up a sport, join a club or organisation that will excite and challenge them. There will be something for all ages as always.

Two major changes will take place in the area over the next year and Lostock Partnership will make sure we keep the community updated with progress. Trafford Housing Trust plan to build new homes in the area of Circle Court and The Dunham Trust plan to build a new school alongside Barton Clough School. We will aim to hold an open meeting in the autumn with updates from both organisations.

Finally all the positive work of Lostock Partnership can’t happen without volunteers. Please think about giving some time and becoming a member or volunteer. Every skill or talent is needed and everyone has something to give.
